The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
This 2009 documentary gives us a glimpse into the wild White family of Boone County, West Virginia who were first profiled in the 1991 hit film “Dancing Outlaw,” which starred family member and mountain tap dancer extraordinaire Jesco White.
The Whites are known for their “colorful and criminal” behavior (they don’t hold back from the cameras!) and the film, while both humorous and tragic, is a testament to the sociocultural impact poverty, drug abuse, and lack of education have on this and many other rural families.
This film is currently streaming on Netflix!
The ”dramatic thriller“ White Lightnin’ is a film inspired by the life of Jesco White and was shown at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.
It is also currently streaming on Netflix!
